The Big Three-Oh: #12

Welcome to “The Big Three-Oh!” I’m turning 30 at the end of July and to celebrate, I am counting down my best/favorite sports moments in my lifetime. If you missed the kickoff post, check it out for the background for the seriesI missed writing the blogs for both #12 and #11. I did post the moments on Instagram as well as the athletes but I do want to catch on these.

#12 — Michael Phelps’ 8 Gold Medals in 2008

If you have the time to watch all eight races, it’s highly entrtaining and brings back some great memories from a highly entertaining Olympics. The 4 x 100 meter relay is my fiance’s favorite sports moments so her love of swimming certainly helps bring this one higher on the list. That said, I was fully entranched into watching all eight races during these Beijing Olympics in August of 2008. Phelps completely captured the attention of the country was the face of greatness as the basketball team went for redemption and the gymnasts faced off with the home nation Chinese elite.

The 4 x 100 relay certainly stands out as the top highlight with the comeback on the final lap and the win by a fingertip capping off the comeback. Phelps’ other victories were landslides and fun to watch but seeing the other Americans keep Michael Phelps’ bid for eight Gold Medals exemplify teamwork making the dream work.

Today’s Instagram Athlete

The one nice thing about having to catch up is that I can just use the Instagram post instead of having to link my profile. TJ McConnell comes in as the athlete for #12. A fan favorite during his time with the Sixers, TJ represents “The Process” perfectly as he was player who believed in the cause the Sixers were building towards and meshed with the locker room incredibly. He has been greatly missed during this current Sixers season.

  1. I saw TJ out one night at cavs in old city. He bought me and my boys a round of gran marniers, rips the shot and literally does a little jig, and dances all the way out of the bar. Legend.

    • @ Mike S. TJ is overrated I mean people love jokes because he looks like some guy who works over at Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor or sells life insurance. Plus I’m pretty sure a lot of people are TJ fans due to his race. I think phillys really need to be more racially sensitive when it comes to who we boo and stuff. I found this podcast because gargano is so over the top.

      • I mean TJ has to play hard. How else would he be on the county ?? His not quick. His an average shooter at best Come playoff basketball which is the only b-ball that matters you regulate him to the bench I feel like a lot of TJ fans need their white privilege checked

    • Hi, I’m Wilford Brimley and I have diabetes also. It hurts me to pee and it causes me to be short with my family. I can’t sleep at night. The other day I stubbed my toe and took it out on the dog. And two weeks ago I ran out of vanilla ice cream and struck my wife. Then I find out my wife has been dead for six years. Who the hell did I hit?
