Geordie Connell and Matt Destefano break down the last week in the NHL (1:08) and NBA (15:10) before jumping into College Basketball’s Championship Week (22:29) previewing who will make it to the NCAA Tournament next week. The guys wrap things up recapping the NFL Combine (38:13).
The Flyers also dropped their showdown with the Penguins 5-2 last night. The Fly Guys struggled to stay out of the penalty box in the first period which Pittsburgh eventually capitalized on with a Phil Kessel goal late in the first. Jake Voracek and Travis Konecny quickly scored as the Flyers took a 2-1 lead about five minutes into the second period. Once again, the defense failed Petr Mrazek and couldn’t match the Penguin onslaught–mainly the Sidney Crosby line. Crosby’s line scored three times in the second period, including one goal with about 30 seconds left, as PIT took a 4-2 lead into the third period. The Flyers couldn’t pull together any comeback magic in the third as Malkin would find the empty net at the end of the game.
With the loss, the Flyers remain in third in the Metro division–third points ahead of New Jersey while two points behind Washington. The playoff race only heats up from here as the Flyers head up to Boston tonight to face the Bruins. Five losses in a row wouldn’t be completely back-breaking, the Flyers did lose 10-straight earlier this year, but a strong road win against a contender would be a great statement.Follow @geordo9
