Thunderblog NFL Cold Hard FAILS: 2016 Week 8 Edition

My favorite part of the week. Cold. Hard. FAILS. USUALLY, Matty D previews each week and I wrap them up but Matty D had an “emergency” (*cough* he was playing golf all weekend *cough*) and missed posting the LOCKS. So here I am to pick up the slack. Week 8 was wacky. No ifs, ands, or buts about it, Week 8 saw some tight contests including another tie. Let’s get to the FAILS…

Week 8 Cold Hard FAILS

By now you’ve seen the scores so I’m going to show who we picked…

Titans railroad Jags 36-22 – We both picked Tennessee: 1-0 G-Man/1-0 Matty D – Another interesting Thursday Night Football game that the Jags actually made interesting in the second half. Demarco Murray continued his great season and Derrick Henry provided a great RB2 performance for the Titans.

Redskins and Bengals tie 27-27 in London – We both picked Cincy: 1-1 G-Man/1-1 Matty D – Kirk Cousins actually had a monster game for yardage but turnovers plagued both squads in the NFL’s second tie of the season.

Chiefs down Colts 30-14 – We both picked Kansas City: 2-1 G-Man/2-1 Matty D – Alex Smith suffered a concussion but Nick Foles looked decently sharp in his return.

Raiders edge Bucs 30-24 on OT – We both picked Oakland: 3-1 G-Man/3-1 Matty D – Derek Carr had a MONSTER game: 513 passing yards and 4 TDs. He and Amari Cooper are becoming a dangerous duo. Oakland faces Denver in Week on SNF. Might be the first great SNF game all year.

Saints edge Seahawks 25-20 – I picked the Seahawks while Matt took New Orleans: 3-2 G-Man/4-1 Matty D – The ending of this game was wild. I really thought the Seahawks would smack the Saints after the tie.

Texans beat Lions 20-13 – I picked Houston while Matt went with the Lions: 4-2 G-Man/4-2 Matty D – Matt didn’t pick the Texans!? Houston is a great home, Detroit is a terrible road team.

Jets sneak by Browns 31-28 – We both picked New York: 5-2 G-Man/5-2 Matty D – Another Browns close-game alert! Cleveland actually lead this 20-7 at the half. Matt Forte put the Jets on his back.

Pats demolish Bills 41-25 – We both picked the Pats: 6-2 G-Man/6-2 Matty D – Brady in for New England and McCoy out for Buffalo? The smackdown was to be expected.

Panthers shutdown Cards 30-20 – We both picked Arizona: 6-3 G-Man/6-3 Matty D – My thought was similar to the Seattle game, the Cards would come out firing on a ailing Panther team after the tie. Cam got smacked around but the Panthers D shutdown David Johnson.

Broncos avenge loss to Chargers, win 27-19 — We both picked Denver: 7-3 G-Man/7-3 Matty D – The Broncos D just wants to prove that they can win the Super Bowl all by themselves.

Falcons edge Packers 33-32 – I picked Atlanta and Matt took Green Bay: 8-3 G-Man/7-4 Matty D – Matty Ice had a great week for the Falcons as he led Atlanta to avoiding their third-straight loss.

Cowboys beat Eagles 29-23 in OT – We both picked the Eagles: 8-4 G-Man/7-5 Matty D – This was a really tough pill to swallow. The Birds had this game and gave it away. Wentz actually played decent as did most of the defense. The playcalling is the biggest gripe in my book.

Bears beat Vikings 20-10 — We both picked Minnesota…

G-Man wins Week 8 8-5 to 7-6, G-Man leads Weekly Series: 5-1-2
G-Man Overall: 70-50
Matty D Overall: 64-56

Practically halfway through the season and I’m 4up on the weekly series. Matt’s making year four easy pickings for me. He’ll actually be in attendance at the Eagles/Giants game this weekend as he’ll be making the trek to the Meadowlands Sunday Morning. The way the Birds play on the road is a cause for concern but I then the team can rebound from this loss and wrap up the first round of NFC East play strong. Something has got to give. Although for the third-straight week, the Eagles play a team fresh off their bye-week. Hopefully the Eagles’ D can chew up Eli right back into full derp mode. MPD SHOULD be back with the locks to preview all the action in Week 9. Until then…
