Thunderblog NFL Cold Hard FAILS: 2016 Week 3 Edition

My favorite part of the week. Cold. Hard. FAILS. If you’re new to THE THUNDERBLOG, Matty D previews each NFL week and I wrap them up: the LOCKS and FAILS. Although this week, I’m writing both. Matt was too busy trying to be chosen as the final Captain’s Pick for the Ryder Cup this weekend. We entered the week after tying both Weeks 1 and 2 at 10-6. We only had one competing pick so that is going to break, let’s check it out…

Week 3 Cold Hard FAILS

By now you’ve seen the scores so I’m going to show who we picked…

Pats blank Texans 27-0 – We both picked New England: 1-0 G-Man/1-0 Matty D – As Fantasy Commissioner Logan called it our league recap: an “embarrassing Thursday night defeat to the Patriots and starting quarterback Leroy Jenkins, or whoever they have back there now. It doesn’t matter.” Well said Logan, Jacoby Brissett played well in the win despite busting up his thumb. Who knows if the Pats will start Julian Edelman or sign some guy walking out of a Boston bar Saturday night, but we all know Belichick will have the perfect game plan to take down Rex Ryan.

Bills barrel Cardinals 33-18 – We both picked Arizona: 1-1 G-Man/1-1 Matty D – Shady ran for 110 yards and 2 TDs while the Rob Ryan D picked off Carson Palmer four times. The Ryans strange firing of the OC seems to have paid off.

Raiders hold off Titans 17-10 – We both picked Oakland: 2-1 G-Man/2-1 Matty D – Matt is climbing on board for the Raid.

Dolphins squeeze by Browns 30-24 in OT – We both picked Miami: 3-1 G-Man/3-1 Matty D – This was both of our Survivor picks and once again, the Browns made it scary. Former Eagle kicker Cody Parkey whiffing the field goal at the of the game saved us.

Ravens edge Jags 19-17 – We both picked Jacksonville: 3-2 G-Man/3-2 Matty D – Reached on this one. Baltimore is probably the shakiest of the remaining undefeateds.

Packs down Lions 34-27 – We both picked Green Bay: 4-2 G-Man/4-2 Matty D – I saw the shootout coming: 7 total passing touchdowns. Rodgers may have had nearly half of Stafford’s but Aaron and company walked away victorious.

Broncos blast Bengals 29-17 – We both picked Denver: 5-2 G-Man/5-2 Matty D – Siemian shines as the Broncos defense looks as strong as ever.

Vikings shock Panthers 22-10 – We both picked Carolina: 5-3 G-Man/5-3 Matty D – The Vikings Defense once again made up for their lack of offense; they embarrassed Cam Newton at home.

Redskins edge Giants 29-27 – We both picked New York: 5-4 G-Man/5-4 Matty D – Eli derped this one away with a late pick.

Rams batter Bucs 37-32 — We both picked Tampa Bay: 5-5 G-Man/5-5 Matty D – Jameis Winston threw for over 400 yards and three touchdowns and the Rams won!? WHAT IS GOING ON!?

Seahawks blast 49ers 37-18 – We both picked Seattle: 6-5 G-Man/6-5 Matty D

Eagles soar over Steelers 34-3 – We both picked Pittsburgh: 6-6 G-Man/6-6 Matty D – YES! YES! YASS! The Wentz Wagon rides on! Had to be smart with the pick as everyone outside of the Eagles’ locker room thought they were going to get smoked. Couldn’t be happier to be more wrong.

Chiefs dominate Jets 24-3 — I had the Chiefs while Matt picked New York: 7-6 G-Man/6-7 Matty D – Oh Matty (both D and Fitz), you couldn’t have been more wrong.

Colts ground Chargers 26-22 — We both picked Indy: 8-6 G-Man/7-7 Matty D

Cowboys thwomp Bears 31-17 – We both picked Dallas: 9-6 G-Man/8-7 Matty D

Falcons march over Saints 45-32 – We both picked the Saints

G-Man wins Week 3 9-7 to 8-8, G-Man leads Weekly Series: 1-0-2
G-Man Overall: 29-19
Matty D Overall: 28-20

Jeeeeeeez. A rough week. We both took a lot of chalk picks and reached on the same ones. Some paid off, others didn’t. Frankly speaking, it was hard to think the Cards and Panthers would flop but on any given Sunday… Had to get methodical there. Anyway, Week 3 is in the books, the Eagles won, I survived, and I’m actually still in the 86th percentile on Week 4 sees the first set of byes, including the Eagles, and the first International Game. Matt should be back this week with the Locks; hopefully he’s not too hurt after his first loss. Check back for them but until then…
