My favorite part of the week. Cold. Hard. FAILS. If you’re new to THE THUNDERBLOG, Matty D previews each NFL week and I wrap them up: the LOCKS and FAILS. They’re named those because we each make our picks and compete each week. This is the 4th year we’ve been picking each other: Matt won in 2013 by 1 week when we started the blog midseason but I’ve won in 2014 and 2015 with me CRUSHING MPD last year 11-5-1. Not surprising that Matt failed to mention that in the Week 1 Locks. I am the KING of pick’em. Matt said after last season that this is “The Year of the Truth,” but let’s see if my dominance continues in 2016.
Week 2 Cold Hard FAILS
By now you’ve seen the scores so I’m going to show who we picked…
Jets steamroll Bills 37-31 – I picked the Jets while Matt picked the Bills: 1-0 G-Man/0-1 Matty D – From “I don’t believe the Bills hype” in Week 1 to think Ryan Fitz couldn’t be a starting QB (374 yards, 1 TD last Thursday), Matt talked some big game. Apologies for no G-MAN’s NOTE in this week’s LOCKS, busy week at the office last week.
Steelers top Bengals 24-16 – We both picked Pittsburgh: 2-0 G-Man/1-1 Matty D
Titans edge Lions 16-15 – We both picked Detroit: 2-1 G-Man/1-2 Matty D – I was THIS close to taking Tennessee but their 4th Quarter play when I did pick them in Week 1 deterred me. Well this week, Marcus Mariota took over in the 4th, go figure.
Ravens rally over Browns 25-20 – We both picked Baltimore: 3-1 G-Man/2-2 Matty D – This was both of our Survivor picks and it looked grim for a long time.
Cowboys sneak by Redskins 27-23 – We both picked Dallas: 4-1 G-Man/3-2 Matty D
Giants edge Saints 16-13 – I took the Giants while Matt took New Orleans: 5-1 G-Man/3-3 Matty D – It was ugly, but I get a point here thanks to Matt never being able to pick an NFC East team
Panthers blast Niners 46-27 – We both picked Carolina: 6-1 G-Man/4-3 Matty D
Pats survive Dolphins 31-24 – I picked New England while Matt picked Miami: 7-1 G-Man/4-4 Matty D – Matt put “If Gronk plays, my pick changes.” I was never letting that stand. Stick by your dumb risky picks. Plain and simple.
Texans down Chiefs 19-12 – I picked the Chiefs while Matt picked Houston: 7-2 G-Man/5-4 Matty D
Seahawks Get lost in LA, Random Guys Dressed as Them Lose 9-3 to the Rams — We both picked Seattle: 7-3 G-Man/5-5 Matty D – Only logical explanation of that game.
Cardinals dominate Bucs 40-7 – We both picked Arizona: 8-3 G-Man/6-5 Matty D – Week 1 must have been opposite day for these two teams.
Chargers surge past Jags 38-14 – Matt picked the Chargers while I took the Jags: 8-4 G-Man/7-5 Matty D – I wanted Blake Bortles to run over the Chargers but San Diego bortled him up (had to)
Falcons put away Raiders 35-28 — I had the Raider while Matt picked Atlanta: 8-5 G-Man/8-5 Matty D – We end up tied, AGAIN. The Raiders looked bad in the first half but rebounded well in the second half. It wasn’t enough for Jack to roll the dice again.
Broncos drop Colts 34-20 — We both picked Denver: 9-5 G-Man/9-5 Matty D – Von Miller dominating Andrew Luck, CJ Anderson looking thin and skilled again, the 2016 Broncos may be better than last year’s Champs.
Vikings Diggs by Packers 17-14 – We both picked Green Bay: 9-6 G-Man/9-6 Matty D – Horrible pun but I had to try. Stefon Diggs had a monster night with 182 yards and a touchdown while Sam Bradford played outstanding in his Vikings debut
Eagles soar over Bears 29-14 – We both picked the Eagles – WENTZMANIA IS HERE! IT WASN’T JUST BECAUSE HE PLAYED THE BROWNS!!! (*Tries to regain composure*). In all seriousness, Carson Wentz looked solid once again. He was reading Blitzes well and called the necessary audibles. My criticisms: Wentz need to either slide or get the crap out of bounds. you’re a big guy but the defenses are bigger. THE RECIEVERS NEED TO CATCH THE FOOTBALL. Next week comes the biggest test of the season: the Steelers. Frankly, I’m not too optimistic right now. Antonio Brown will run all over the Eagles’ secondary and even if someone keeps up with Brown, all Big Ben has to do is toss the ball within 100 yards of Brown and he’ll come down with the ball.
We tie Week 2 at 10-6, Weekly Series starts 0-0-2
G-Man Overall: 20-12
Matty D Overall: 20-12
Another freaking tie. We even had six competing picks and we managed to split them. At least we’re in the 90th percentile on ESPN for pick’em, not too bad through two weeks. Week three should be intriguing starting Thursday night with the Texans and the Brissett-led Patriots. Matty D will be preview and the rest of the action as we look to break our tie. Until then…
