It might be a fridge-essential, a tailgate hit, the perfect Beirut can, or an off-the-beaten-path brew.  Maybe it came from a large production company, a local microbrewery, or from over the oceans.

The only common denominator is that it has to be beer. So crack open that cold one in your hand and listen in, maybe just maybe I’ll sway you onto your new favorite American pastime.

Beer of the Week:

Ithaca Flower Power

Flower-Power

Had the great opportunity to visit the wonderful town of Ithaca and Cornell University a few weekends ago. It is an awesome spot with beautiful vistas, mid-town hundred foot waterfalls, and a diverse population. The best part of my visit was the quick drive out to Ithaca Beer Company.

Located just out of town, this gem of a spot is nestled around local farms and offers not only great beer but great food as well. I could have easily spent the whole afternoon lounging in the Adirondack chairs and enjoying a few pints. But alas my time was short, so after taking a quick tour I snagged a case of one of my favorite IPAs, Flower Power.

Yes I know, a beer named Flower Power doesn’t sound too manly. But don’t let the name fool you, this is one hell of a beer. Sitting at 7.5 %, the Flower Power IPA is a year round selection that can be found throughout the Northeast. It starts with a hit of hops and then soothes out to a taste that you can read on the label, floral, along with some citrus. The malty end taste balances Flower Power making it more than enjoyable on a nice summer day. Worth grabbing a glass next time you see it on tap at your local watering hole. Heck, why not just jump in the car and drive up to the brewery yourselves, only four hours to go!

If any readers or tweeters have any advice on beers to spotlight, give my a shout. Remember, America was built on beer and don’t let anyone tell you differently.

Never stop being merry!
