Flyers Blast Sabres 5-2, End Losing Streak

I purposefully waited until this morning to write this because I couldn’t find video of that goal last night. That’s the best video I could find but what a SNIPE from Brayden Schenn! The Flyers finally shake their losing streak and win their 40th game of the year by a score of 5-2 over the Buffalo Sabres. Schenn scored two goals to reach the 20-goal plateau while Vinny Lecavalier scored his 19th. The Flyers absolutely out-played the Sabres by only allowing them to fire 19 shots.

While the Flyers did take too many penalties, they were able to kill off five of those six Buffalo power plays. The one power play goal came from a match penalty taken by Zac Rinaldo for elbowing Chad Ruhwedal in the head. That was Rinaldo’s fourth penalty of the net and the hit to the head ejected him. Whether or not Rinaldo will be suspended remains to be seen but Rinny also scored his second of the year last night.

With the win, the Flyers remain two points ahead of the Blue Jackets for third in the Metropolitan with four games left in the regular season. Three of the four games will be on the road for the Flyers, as the Frozen Four comes to town, with their final home game being on Sunday. The Flyers will first make the Florida swing as they will visit the Panthers tomorrow night, and the Lightning on Thursday. The Panthers may be out of the playoffs, but they love to play spoiler, just ask the Dallas Stars. The puck drops at 7:30 tomorrow night.
