morning shot of hockey to go with your coffee.
LAST NIGHT’S SCORES:
Quick Hits today. Here are yesterday’s picks in case you missed them. Asterisk indicates who I picked:
Flames blank Hurricanes* 2-0 – 21 Times. Carolina gave away the puck 21 times. Seeing that stat, it’s no surprise that they lost. Big props to Calgary goaltender Karri Ramo on his first career shutout; he stopped all 23 Carolina shots.
Blue Jackets drop Lightning* late: 3-2 – Well I was completely wrong, and you know who proved me especially wrong? Bob. Sergei Bobrovski made the difference stopping 26 of 28, one more than his counterpart: Anders Lindback. Nathan Horton scored his second goal of the year (in his sixth game), the 200th goal of his career!
Jets blast Coyotes* 5-1 – When you win the shot battle 38-19, you’re probably going to win the game. That’s what happened in this one. The Jets had power plays, and scored once. That’s Winnipeg for you.
Kings* edge Canucks 1-0 – Gotta quickly talk about Tom Sestito. Guy starts a fight on a truly defenseless guy, gets 27 penalty minutes for it. WOW. This game ended with a total of 109 penalty minutes between the two teams. Just crazy. Jonathan Quick goes 28 for 28 en route to the shutout, America!
1-3 last night. 49-45 on the season now.
Highlight of the Night:
The Flyers look to bounce back tonight against the Buffalo Sabres. This is the second matchup as the Flyers won the first meeting in Philadelphia back on November 21st 4-1. Expect tonight to be a lot like the first game, the Flyers will look to move the puck around the Buffalo defense. The one thing the Sabres have going for them is that they’ve gone 6-0-2 in their last 8 home games, allowing two goals or fewer in each of them.
Ten other games around the league. Three games to look out for are: Maple Leafs @ Bruins, Lightning @ Rangers, and Sharks @ Capitals all at 7pm. Bruins over Maple Leafs: The Bruins are phenomenal at home and the Leafs aren’t very good at all on the road. Lighting over Rangers: Yes, the Lightning are playing the second game in as many days, but their offense fell short last night. They won’t do that tonight, they especially want to beat King Henrik. Sharks over Caps: Two high powered offenses going at one another. The difference? San Jose has a much better defense.
LET’S GO FLYERS!!!
