Famous Jameis. The Heisman Trophy Winner leads one of the most highly explosive offenses into the National Championship Game. Florida State has won each of its games by an average of about two touchdowns and Winston is a big reason for it. He has big targets in Rashad Greene and Kelvin Benjaman: both of whom almost received for 1,000 yards apiece and combined for 23 of Winston’s 38 passing touchdowns. Devonta Freeman and Karlos Williams, the Seminoles’ RBs, combine for nearly 1,650 yards and 24 touchdowns, so this team has a very balanced offense. The story here will be how does the Auburn defense step up against this team. Auburn’s D ranks last in the SEC against the pass and near the bottom against the run. Famous Jamies will exploit that. Florida State Offense edges out Auburn Defense
Auburn Offense vs. Florida State Defense
Points Per Game: 40.2 (9th in Nation) vs. 10.7 Edge: PUSH
Rush Yards Per Game: 335.5 (1st) vs. 116.5 Edge: Auburn
Passing Yards Per Game: 169.6 vs. 152.0 Edge: Florida State
The Tigers aren’t a passing per-say but they’ve made some big plays through the air. The key for the Tigers will be the top-ranked ground game. QB Nick Marshall and Heisman Finalist RB Tre Mason have combined for over 2,600 rushing yards and 33 touchdowns. Sammie Coates is the big receiving threat for Auburn with 841 yards and 7 TDs. Florida State has a great passing defense but the Tigers will look to run over the Seminoles. For the first time thise season, I’m saying these teams PUSH.
Well, the BCS-Era is going out with a BANG! Famous Jameis is looking to be the first freshman to win a BCS National Championship. Florida State wants to bring a title back to the ACC with PERFECTION. Fun Fact: no matter how tonight goes, Florida will forever be the only team to play in BCS Title Game as a member of the ACC. Miami has won and lost the game and Virginia Tech has also played in it and lost, but they were both members of the Big East when they did so. Auburn is looking to cap off their miracle season and keep the final year of the BCS in the SEC for its eighth-straight title.
When it comes down to it for me (and JSB), the whole Florida State Strength of Schedule issue has proven to be not such an issue, and it’s because of Bowl Season. Auburn edged out Texas A&M 45-41 back in October, the same team that had a miracle comeback against Duke in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Florida State DOMINATED Duke in the ACC Championship Game 45-7. I was already picking Florida State, as is JSB, but that cements it more for me. Of course, that is only my opinion and people will disagree. Enter Matty D. He’s going with Auburn and with a win, he’ll clinch the Bowl Mania. I hate to go against my man Jason Dufner, but go Florida State.
