Bowl Season Continues On:
Boomer Sooner. None of us picked the Sooners to defeat Alabama but Bob Stoops backed up his jabs at the SEC. So here are the standings through January 2nd, 2014:
1) Matty D: 18 – 12
2) G-Man: 17 – 13
T3) Ariel Glassberg, Jake Goldberg, and JSB: 16 – 14
COTTON BOWL
#13 Oklahoma State Cowboys (10-2, 7-2 Big 12) vs. #8 Missouri Tigers (11-2, 7-1 SEC) at 7:30 on FOX
STADIUM:
AT&T Stadium aka JerryWorld, will be the host of the 2014 Cotton Bowl
Oklahoma State Offense vs. Missouri Defense
Points Per Game: 39.8 (13th in the Nation) vs. 22.5 Edge: Oklahoma State
Rush Yards Per Game: 172.0 vs. 151.8 Edge: Oklahoma State
Passing Yards Per Game: 268.5 vs. 255.2 Edge: Oklahoma State
The Cowboys feature one of the better offenses in the nation and a big reason for that is because of quarterback Clint Chief. Not only has Chief posted 1792 Passing Yards, 15 TDs, and 6 Ints in the 11 Games he’s appeared in, but his 321 rushing yards and 6 rushing TDs are third on the team. A dual-threat QB, which Mizzou also has but we’ll get there, we saw how Nick Marshall played against the Tigers in SEC Championship game. Mizzou’s D isn’t what they boast and it isn’t why they’re here, again we’ll get there, which is why Oklahoma State Offense edges out Missouri Defense
Missouri Offense vs. Oklahoma Defense
Points Per Game: 39.0 (16th in Nation) vs. 20.0 Edge: Missouri
Rush Yards Per Game: 236.5 (17th in Nation) vs. 132.9 Edge: Missouri
Passing Yards Per Game: 256.5 vs. 245.6 Edge: Missouri
The Tigers also have a dual-threat QB in James Franklin. Franklin missed four games in the middle of the seaon and his replacement, Maty Mauk, also playing exceptionally well for Mizzou. Franklin posted 2255 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns, and five interceptions with 474 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. They also have an excellent running back in Henry Josey, 1,074 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns while wide receivers L’Damian Washington and Dorial Green-Beckham have combined for 1,683 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns. The Cowboys Defense is statistically better than Mizzou’s but they’ll need to slow down the Tigers’ rushing game. Mizzouri Offense edges out Oklahoma State Defense
In case you couldn’t tell, this game will be a shootout. It almost seems perfect, a shootout in Big D. These two teams are extremely familiar with one another since Missouri had been a member of the Big 12 up until last year. Mizzou leads the series 28-23 All-Time although OK State has won the last three meetings. We have a split decision for this game: JSB is going with Oklahoma State while Matty D and myself are going with Missouri.
