Bowl Season Continues On:
GILDAN NEW MEXICO BOWL: Colorado State over Washington State 48-45 – the Rams edged out the Cougars via a serious comeback that was topped off by a Statue of Liberty play. JSB was the only one of the five in the Bowl Mania group to pick the Rams.
ROYAL PURPLE LAS VEGAS BOWL: USC trounces Fresno State 45-20 – Cody Kessler played how we all were hoping that Derek Carr would: 345 Passing Yards, 4 TDs, and 1 Int. Carr only threw for 216 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 Int. JSB and Jake Goldberg were the only two to pick the Trojans. JSB is perfect so far.
FAMOUS IDAHO POTATO BOWL: San Diego State downs Buffalo 49-24 – What did I say about Adam Muema? Well he ran for 229 Yards and Three Touchdowns. Game, SDSU. Everyone but Goldy picked SDSU. JSB remains perfect with a two-game lead.
R+L CARRIERS NEW ORLEANS BOWL: Louisiana-Lafayette edges out Tulane 24-21 – The Rajin’ Cajuns were up 21-0 in the middle of the second quarter. I’m sure they’re glad they pulled out the win after blowing that lead. JSB and Matty D were wrong about this one. JSB finally loses one.
Here are the Standings through Day One:
1) JSB: 3-1
T2) G-Man, Ariel Glassberg, Jake Goldberg: 2-2
5) Matty D: 1-3
Today’s Bowl:
BEEF ‘O’ BRADY’S BOWL
Ohio Bobcats (7-5, 4-4 MAC) vs. East Carolina Pirates (9-3, 6-2 C-USA) at 2pm on ESPN
This may be the most lob-sided early bowl. ECU is a 13.5 point favorite in this game. This is mainly because the Pirates have a very pass-heavy offense with QB Shane Carden throwing 3,866 passing yards and 32 touchdowns AND a 1000-yard rusher in Senior Running Back Vintavious Cooper. Don’t write off the Bobcats just yet. Senior QB Tyler Tettleton had a solid 2623 passing yards this season and the Bobcats are 6-1 when Tettleton throws for more than 200 yards but are 1-4 when he throws fewer than two TDs. Watch out ECU WR Justin Hardy. He’s 5th nationally in receptions and catches per game while he’s 13th nationally in receiving yards. All five group members picked East Carolina.
That’s the only game today and there’s only one tomorrow so I’ll be back tomorrow to preview the Hawaii Bowl.
