Morning Hockey Roundup: December 17, 2013

Your morning shot of hockey to go with your coffee.

LAST NIGHT’S PICKS:

Quick Hits again. Here are my picks in case you missed them. Asterisk indicates who I picked

Penguins* down Maple Leafs 3-1.  –  The Leafs were going along in this game all tied up at one until a turnover in their own zone led to one man guy receiving a pass all alone in the slot: Sid the Kid. Can’t let that happen.

Jets* edge Blue Jackets 3-2. – Evander Kane had missed the previous six games with a lower-body injury, he sniped the game-winner. And just like that, I’m up 2-0 on the day! Not so fast though…

Senators down Blues* 3-2 in OT. – Cody Ceci, from Ottawa, scored his first NHL Goal last night, in overtime. Game, set, match: Ceci. This goal was a snipe and the celebration was even better:

CeciYEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

Avs explode over Stars* 6-2. – This game started with a snipe from the 2013 #1 Pick Nathan MacKinnon (see below). Paul Stastny showing that age doesn’t matter to him scoring two and assisting two and G Seymon Varlamov stopped 31 shots from Dallas. Tyler Seguin scored for the Stars, so I guess they can be happy about that.

2-2 last night. 26-23 on the season now.

Highlight of the Night:

Play on playa. Colorado is full of young guys, watch out.

GAMES  TONIGHT:

Big Night Tonight. Twelve games on the schedule. The Flyers and Capitals continue their home-and-home back in Philadelphia tonight at 7:30. The Flyers are riding a six-game home winning streak. They play much more complete games in the Wells Fargo Center. They need to do that tonight. They CAN’T play like Sunday. I could go on for awhile about this so I’ll just say one more thing: watch out for Ovi.

Three Games to Watch: Coyotes @ Canadiens at 7:30, Sharks @ Blues at 8, and Canucks @ Wild at 8. Canadiens over Coyotes: Phoenix is slumping and is horrible on the road, I can’t go against that trend. Blues over Sharks: The Blues are phenomenal at home. This will be high scoring, but ultimately St. Louis prevails at home. Wild over Canucks: The Canucks are HOT, but Minnesota has shut down hot teams when they visit the Wild. Plus G Josh Hardding is a great surprise out of this Wild team.

LET’S GO FLYERS!!!
